Fraud Alert: Global Payments Credit Card Processor Breach

Print

April 6, 2012

Due to the data breach at Global Payments Inc., a credit card processor, we advise members to be on the alert for any suspicious e-mails (phishing), text messages (SMiShing), or phone calls (vishing) requesting personal or financial information, especially card data. This includes, your billing address, 3 digit security code found on the back of the card, or enrollment criteria/passwords for Verified by Visa.

If you do receive any of these communications in regards to your Provident Visa cards, do not respond and report them to us immediately at (800) 632-4600 or (650) 508-0300.

Until we can determine if any of our members' Provident credit or debits cards were impacted by this situation, here are some suggestions:

  • Do not cancel your credit or your debit cards.
  • Do not open and click on links in unsolicited e-mail or text messages.
  • Monitor your accounts closely and look for any unfamiliar transactions. Report any discrepancies as soon as possible. Check online as often as you like. Click here to sign up to our free online banking service today.
  • Rest assured we do not hold members liable for fraudulent electronic charges — not even the first $50 as some other credit card companies are known to do.
  • If you've moved recently, please make sure Provident has your current e-mail, address, and phone number in case we need to contact you.

Provident — and any other legitimate financial institution or business — will never contact you to request personal or financial information.

If you do become a victim of fraud or provide information in response to an unsolicited request, promptly take the following steps:
