Potential Visa Card Compromise: Update
Print
January 29, 2007
TJX Company, the parent company of TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and A.J. Wright Stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and its Winners and HomeSense stores in Canada, suffered a large-scale unauthorized intrusion into its computer systems that process and store information related to customer transactions. Based on current reports, the information at risk appears to be account numbers, expiration dates, Card Verification Values (CVV) and name. The compromised information does not appear to involve other personal information such as Social Security Numbers, addresses and birth dates. Click here to read more at the TJX website.
While we are still working with Visa to determine if any of our members were impacted by this situation, here are some suggestions:
- Do not cancel your credit or your debit cards.
- Once we know more about the situation, we will contact you by phone or by mail individually if you were impacted. At that time we will advise and assist you with what you need to do to protect yourself.
- Rest assured we do not hold members liable for fraudulent credit card charges -- not even the first $50 as some other credit card companies are known to do.
- No matter the circumstances, a good financial habit to adopt is the regular monitoring of all your accounts. You should be checking your credit card statements regularly and reporting anything fraudulent to us immediately. You can review your paper statements monthly or check online as often as you like. - If you've moved recently, please make sure Provident has your current e-mail, address, and phone number in case we need to contact you.
