Federal Benefits Are Going Electronic
Did you know that effective March 1, 2013, paper checks will no longer be issued for federal benefit payments? These payments, which include Social Security, SSI and VA benefits, will only be disbursed electronically.
A change for the better. Not only will this change save taxpayers $120 million a year in costs for printing and mailing checks; electronic deposits are also much safer and more convenient.
If you are a recipient of federal benefits, you can avoid the last-minute hassle by signing up for Direct Deposit now. It’s easy to do and it is a free service that ensures secure deposit of your monthly benefits. No more trips to the credit union every month to make a deposit...plus the funds will be in your account even sooner.
