- Be sure your password that isn’t easy to guess. Use a combination of numbers, letters, symbols and capitalization.
- If you use a password that you already use elsewhere, make sure it’s one you use for another secure login, such as online banking, credit card accounts, etc. Examples of passwords that shouldn’t be reused are those you use for social media or e-mail accounts.
- If you recycle or sell your phone, remove all your apps and put the phone back to the original factory settings to eliminate having any personal information remain on the device.
- Don’t download an app unless it’s through a verified source such as your phone’s app store or the official website of the entity whose app you want to download.
- Clicking on links through the e-mails you download to your phone is every bit as dangerous as those on your computer. Phishing and other mobile fraud is on the rise, so be suspicious of links embedded in e-mails or texts, just as you would elsewhere.
